This was my first 26er project! Originally starting as the “shit bike” but slowly ending up with a nearly full rebuild. This is now v3 or something. Last pic is how I picked it up for $60.
This was an attempt as a broke college student to make the nicest relatively budget friendly ride I could.
Now become my school/dietcoke/trail/daily bike.
All the parts were sourced mainly through marketplace/trades and some from the local bike shop (shoutout to Bullseye). Everything except the forks lol.
Besides tires & a new seatpost (too short) & maybe some new shifters (it never ends) I don’t see this bike evolving much further. Maybe a drop post.. Disc.. anyways. Steal is real or something.

nothing like noticing a typo after posting 👁️👁️
This is how it goes for me too: rat bike becomes nice bike. Final version looks sick
Nice build for a first project! These frames are made with True Temper and they are light.
I feel like in this sub you get such wild swings from “so proud of my pipe steel frame beater” to “check out my shitty top of the line True Temper OX III framed bike with XTR” lol.
Nice find! I’m about to start refurbing a 970 from 1989, not nearly as light as this one I bet, those late 80s frames are hefty compared to mid 90s.
What happened to the OG fork?
