Hi y’all, I recently made this mount for my front light. I wanted to relocate it in front of my basket. Im trying to mitigate the distracting glares and shadows from my basket and cables when the light is mounted on my bar.

I thought of putting it on the basket but what if i take the basket off? Needed somewhere with more permanence.

With this, I humbly come to you all looking for feedback. Is this dumb? With the light being lower, am I introducing any safety risks? I would greatly appreciate any feedback. TIA!

    I don’t love it honestly.

Mines on my fork and I will keep it that way

  2. I definitely hate shadows too and try to mount mine out front over the wheel.

  3. Only downside of being mounted right over the wheel is road spray when it’s wet out. Some lights are not sufficiently waterproof and could break over time.

By mounting it a little to the side you can avoid this, but you might need to get creative with fashioning a mount.

Light under the basket is a classic. Yours looks pointed at the ground too near, though.

The best test is to ride and try it out. However, I’ve had my light like this for years and it’s great. You get a longer throw of the beam, so you just see more things ahead of you. Truly no meaningful downsides.

Best place for it IMO. Putting the light a little lower makes it better at showing you potholes.

It’s the right height as well. Lights on handlebars are definitely too high.

That’s brilliant, and with the right STL I would print it….I have a hacky version of something like that on my front rack, mounting a Nite Ize Lumina 1000, and that much unobstructed light is so good. Add in a twofish flashlight holder on the bars for even more light.

I used to have mine on the fork but the shadow cast by the wheel was too hard to ignore. Centered light over the wheel is the best solution

I feel like it’s better for seeing the road but not as good for being seen by motorists. So I’d probably just run two.

  11. That looks great–way better than the janky solution I came up with. What bracket and light did you use?

    Pasela gang!

But yeah seems like a good location, here in Europe the standard place to put a front light is just above the front wheel, a bit more forward seems fine to me, especially with the basket.
