When my son was 4 we made the mistake of buying a cheap bike from big box store. It had coaster brakes. I didn't even know that was a thing because I had never seen where and when I grew up. Those brakes killed any motivation he had. Plus the frame and size was just wrong.

Now he is ready to learn again and I have been researching. Ideally I want him to have an aluminum frame bike without coaster brakes. The best bikes are expensive though. On FB marketplace someone is selling a 24" Raleigh Rowdy bike. They say it has an aluminum frame.

Is this a good bike to start? Is it really an aluminum frame?

My son is 54" tall with a ~24" inseam.

I plan to take the pedals off for the first week. Good idea?

That’ll be a great bike for him and yeah, take the pedals off and let him scoot around until he gets a feel for it.
