Are scratch marks normal for a brand new MTB seat post?
Not the biggest deal I’m just a bit confused because it’s looks intentional. I wast sure if this is done to prevent movement or if it’s just cosmetic damage.
There is a burr in the seat tube and the shop did not do due diligence in removing it. Go back and have them remove the burr and give you a gift card or a new seatpost.
Doesn’t affect anything but looks bad and maybe could lead to seizing from rust later on.
Edit: The bike is alloy so seizing isn’t a concern.

There is a rough spot inside your seat tube.
Most likely right where the seat tube intersects the top tube. You can ask the local shop to de burr the seat tube and they can run a wire wheel through it and remove the burr. Pretty common on alloy frames.

Never seen something like that before. This isn’t normal.

Might be carbon paste, it’s grit mixed with grease to help adhesion, anyway it’s a seatpost, doesn’t change a thing

There’s a burr in the seat tube. The rest is probably just the grease maybe mixed with some metal dust from the seat post. Sucks, but not uncommon. Take a round file to the seat tube and clean up the burr. Seatpost is fine functionally.

There’s a burr or blemish of some kind at a weld in the inside of your frame at the seat tube. Somewhat common on steel or aluminum frames. It scratched that way while turning the seat during install. Look in the seat tube with flashlight or see if you can feel it with your finger. In any case, Take a long file and try to clean up whatever is hitting it. FWIW I saw this plenty back in the day as a shop mechanic

Yes, it’s from wiggling the seat post as it get’s pulled up and pushed down.

It’s normal to some degree on rockhoppers but that’s pretty excessive for sure.

That’s pretty common. Something is sticking out in your seat tube or the clamp was still a little tight. The zigzag is from someone twisting the seatpost back and forth to get it to raise or lower. I’ve never seen these go deep enough to be structural, so I’d just send it.

I have a dropper seatpost like that. It was caused by a Nukeproof Scout Frame.
