Hi everyone! I’m looking to get into cycling this summer as a casual workout and would love some advice on which bike might be best for me.
My goal is mostly to ride along paved river pathways for about 1–2 hours at a moderate pace. I’m not planning to race or ride competitively, just looking for something comfortable and reliable to see if I enjoy cycling as a regular activity.
A bit about me:
• Female, 158 cm (5’2”)
• Mostly riding on flat city paths / river paths, occasionally slightly sandy areas
• Looking for something comfortable, stable, and beginner-friendly
Right now I’m considering a few options:
• Norco Indie 4
• Kona Dew
• 2019 Trek Verve 2 Women’s (XS)
All of them are roughly in the same price range.
From what I understand they’re all hybrid / commuter-style bikes, but I’m not sure if one would be noticeably better for casual rides and fitness.
Which of these bikes would be best for beginner recreational riding? Any advice or things I should look out for would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

A 7 year old entry level bike like a Verve 2 is not worth 600 CAD. Half that at least. The Indie and Dew are both decent options, as long as you can get the right size. They also have wider tyres than the older bike which helps a lot with comfort and versatility over different surfaces.
The Dew has a wider gear range than the Indie, which would make it better for hills and headwinds. It has two chainrings at the front, which can be a little tricky to wrap your head around. There are good systems with just a single chainring at the front (meaning you only have to change gear with one hand), but the version on the Indie is quite limited.
