Hi all! Long time reader of these threads for info, inspiration or looking for answers to questions and am now here with my first post!

Sharing my everyday commuter, a 1992 Mongoose Alta. I originally purchased it in early 2024 off FB Marketplace for $85 after crashing my original daily commuter and messing up the fork to the point where it would’ve cost more to find the same replacement fork or have a new one custom made than would cost for the bike itself. The OG commuter was a tad small for me anyway, so enter the Alta…

It started out pretty much stock, save for a silver rear rack that the previous owner added as well as some clip pedals but the bike and everything on it had probably sat collecting dust for 25 years, if not more. So I got it tuned up at my local bike shop and even rode on the original tires for some time more before swapping them out for some Gravelking SKs in what was my first investment into the bike. Since then, I’ve acquired a bell, new rear rack, front rack, front basket (since removed), new grips and bar tape, new pedals, new seat, various lights, emergency pump, bottle cage and not long ago, after a long wait, a set of full axiom fenders!

Recently I got a second hand MXT trunk bag from my LBS as well and after stepping back and seeing all the work I’ve put into the bike and realizing that this is a ride 10 year old me always dreamed of having, I wanted to share it with others!

Is it fast, no. But it is versatile, gets me where I’m going and is a tank. With the 3×7 gearing and now fenders, it’s perfect for tackling rides here in the PNW. I can’t remember the last time I was this excited to bike regularly. Probably when I was, well… 10.

I present, in all his glory, Nigel: The Adventure Bike!
