Noticed the headset bearings getting a bit rough after a couple of years without servicing riding in all weathers. Just sorted out a spare bike so took this one apart to have a look.

The lower bearings weren’t caged so I’ve lost them. In addition to this the races look a bit worse for wear

My question is how do I measure for new bearings? I have the top bearings which are fine/ no wear and appear to fit the lower race.

It’s an FSA headset in an early 2010s boatman sport (yes go on laugh at my Halfords bike)

You don’t buy new ball bearings. You buy a whole new headset.

A decent quality sealed bearing headset is so much cheaper than it used be, and there are so many options out there.
