    Unfortunately yes.

    The industry push for disc brakes meant rim quality could decline. This would not be acceptable on a rim brake bike but I doubt you’ll notice this compared to the increased performance of disc brakes.

  2. Unrelated but if that gray strip is lead tape for balancing it’d arguably look better if you stuck it inside under the rim tape (or if you’re lazy like me then under a piece of gorilla tape on top of the rim tape). Just make sure you remount the tire and tube in the exact same position and orientation.
