Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Pinterest Bluesky Threads I’m in the process of swapping the Frame on my bike and I’m also replacing the crankset. Should I replace the cassette? I can’t tell if it’s completely blown out or if it has a couple of seasons of life left in it. Thanks in advance. by Corn_Shooter Bicycling Bike Bike Repair Biking Cycling Repair

MasterpieceKey9828 on March 2, 2026 12:51 am Does it skip? If it doesn’t skip I would say run with it
Traditional_Bit7262 on March 2, 2026 12:55 am Looks like a lot of shark teeth. The way to tell if this really toast is to run your finger along the top of the teeth. If you can feel burrs it’s overdue to be replaced.
YoungReal6694 on March 2, 2026 2:38 am I would replace it. The arcs are already worn and the new chains will slide around it. Difficult to shift the gear as well.

Shark’s fin soup. New cassette, new chain.

If a new chain skips it’s toast.
