I was on a ride this morning and there was a considerable climb which was killer but worth it.

On the way down I was approaching speeds of 50km which was basic for my old aluminum bike as it handled well at over 70km.

However it was really windy and my canyon started getting pushed around by the wind and I was scared. Having been in a few accidents and actively trying to avoid another, I had to reduce my speed to <40 and keep it there at which point the handling became better and my heart rate returned to normal. I got to the bottom of the climb with aching wrists, hands and arms from gripping the bars in a death grip and my group members said it was because of the aero wheels.

TLDR: How do I descend safely with this bike and its aero wheels?. Does anyone have a similar issue and how did they resolve it?.

The bag on your top tube is probably contributing more than your wheels. The fender might not help either. Other than that, get heavier I guess

  2. Fenders and all of this bags have a lot more of wear surface compared to the bike itself.. plus the ERC wheels have a very round profile.

Your bottles and especially bags act like a sail. But a lot of it is bike fit and how well you’re used to your bike.
