I’ve been working on a mid 90’s Serotta mountain bike with a 1 inch threadless headset and was in need of a top cap. I’m a plumber and HVAC technician so I wondered if I could adapt plumbing parts. I took a 1 inch copper cap and cut it down, then soldered on a square of copper to add some strength and extra material to accommodate a countersunk bolt. It should make a nice patina with time.
