This is day 2 of trying to bunny hop. I can feel the motions happening but I just cannot get my weight to bring up the front wheel. I cant even manual. Could that be because i just don’t weigh enough? My bike is supposed to be 27.7 lbs, I am only about 102.

As soon as I throw my weight back and pull the bars to my hips, I feel like I am being yanked back forward. Then my feet have nothing to grab. What am I doing wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do I not weigh enough?

  1. Get your butt lower and further back, like you’re trying to put the back tire between your legs. You’ll get there eventually.

  2. raymondmarble2 on

For both you have, what I call, the “safety on”. You appear to not be comfortable going too far back on the bike, as you are getting into an unstable (when you are first learning) area that makes it feel like if you go any farther back, you would fall. Get all the pads on, keep that helmet on, slow down a bit, and with the hop, let your weight go farther over the back wheel. for manuals, lean back, but do the weight movement faster, and pull up a bit with your arms. going VERY slowly, pull back so hard you come off the back. Knowing that you are going to go backwards, be ready to catch yourself. Do it enough that you immediately know how to land on your feet if you loop out. that will greatly reduce the actual risk and the mental risk feeling you probably have naturally.
