Continental Rubans (shield wall version)
I only seem to be able to find a very few reddit mentions and a handful of "reviews" that are either paid reviews or just like, out-of-the-box impressions. Anyone actually running these in the real world and churning out the miles on them? I am interested in their perceived rolling resistance, flat protection and longevity.
Planning a 4-5 month long tour this year (longer if I can stretch my funds) that will likely be a 50/50 split between long pavement miles and gravel, fire roads, and single track.
Searching for a great all rounder, SUV tire.
I know the standard answer is Mezcals, but with equal parts pavement they seem less attractive?
I have been running Conti Urban Contacts and Conti PureContacts on my bikes and love the rubber compound, low rr, and puncture protection of them. I have probably a combined 6-7k miles on those tires, which led me to seeing what conti offers in an SUV tire.
Any real world reviews or info or recs would be greatly appreciated 🙂
Thanks!

Yep I have them on my commuter ebike. Rolling resistance is better than I expected for such a deep lugged tire, but I would be shocked if they were faster than mezcals. The cornering knobs are huge and feel somewhat squirmy with the bike leaned way over on pavement, if that matters to you.
Sidewalls are medium thickness and seem fairly tough, although I had a flat shortly after I got them when I ran over some glass. Put in a plug and they’ve been perfectly fine over the last 1,000ish miles so far. Treadwear so far is very impressive, these seem to hold up well over a lot of miles.
IMO these are a great bikepacking tire for touring on single track and rough terrain, but I suspect the mezcals are still the reigning champ for mixed surface riding with a lot of pavement.
