IMO yes. It lets you run a much easier climbing gear while still keeping a decent top end. I tend to prefer 2×10. Super easy to adjust and has great gearing.

If you’re buying a new bike, sure. Otherwise I don’t know if it’s worth the cost. Brifters, casette, chainrings, derailleur, chain, and possibly even the hub or hub body, adds up fast.

To what end? It’s not particularly complex to do, but will require new cassette, chain, derailler and shifters. You can get a 10s cassette with a bigger climbing gear if that’s what you want. I have a 11:50t on my touring bike in 10s. The extra two gears ultimately just make the jumps between gears smaller, but if you’re not having hard shifting issues, I wouldn’t worry about it.
