Easiest way for the pads is by applying the brake, loosen the bolt, adjust the pad to the centre of the rim (reduce brake pressure as needed), apply brake pressure while you tighten to pad down to keep it aligned. Ideally you will then toe it in though which means angling the pad slightly so that the front portion of the pad makes contact with the rim slightly before the rest. This prevents brake chatter
