Somewhere on the Lakeland Trail, riding toward Detroit, I stopped and did the Michigan J. Frog dance — being in Michigan, it felt highly required.
Later, I kept thinking about presence — how the more I’m actually here, the less I miss where I’m not. I ended up singing a song about it with a rice-filled playdough shaker on the side of the trail.
By the time I reached North Detroit, something clicked: discomfort isn’t something to avoid out here. It’s the guide. Every time things get harder, I feel more inside the experience, parts of me feel called to it.
That night, just before crossing into Canada, an Indian family took me in and treated me like a true guest. It grounded everything from the day. For them, the guest is the fourth God.
I pulled a few moments from that ride into this episode.

I love discomfort. It rules. I’m never comfortable!
