We planned a 550 km loop with 10k elevation gain, but a series of mechanical issues forced us to shorten the route and use asphalt in a few places (500km and 8k elevation gain). My derailleur wouldn’t tension properly on the 3–4 hardest gears, my friend’s AXS derailleur completely died (he rode ~150 km on singlespeed), plus a few other problems along the way.
Despite that, we experienced an incredible variety of landscapes, many of which aren’t even captured in the photos. We slept wild every night, setting up camp in the evening and rolling out early in the morning, with zero issues.
Our diet was mostly pita souvlaki, canned tuna, and sugar. Night temperatures at the highest points (~1900 m) dropped to around 0°C (about 6°C lower down), while during the day the sun made riding in a short sleeve totally comfortable.
We came with fairly low expectations after seeing photos online and having certain standards from past trips, but Cyprus completely exceeded them. Highly recommended.
