Background info
Hello all. This last summer I rode 1800mi on an ebike across the northern US. I started with paniers on the rear and 2in wheels (last pic), but had spokes breaking and had to convert back to my solid 4in wheels. The breakages necessitated moving weight off the back end and as I was stranded in Indiana the cycle shop owner that rescued me offered a cheap burley child trailer as a solution.

Other than a battery failure due to water ingress this system worked well for me.

I'm planning another tour this summer and I have already prototyped a new trailer because I had to leave this one behind in WA. This time I have a crappy Amazon special which is loud, heavy, and boxy. But inside I have two additional batteries in a waterproof case, increasing range from 40-50mi per charge to 120+.

Anyway, in my testing the trailer causes significant drag. You can see in some of the pictures that I actually folded the sides down to reduce its cross-section, which worked better than I thought it would on days with extreme winds (24mph one day!). My best estimates are ~0.85 — which is about twice that of a loaded panier setup.

My question:
Have any of you specifically toured with the Burley Nomad? If so, how did you like it?

If you have toured with some different trailer setup and you were particularly happy with it, I'm open to other ideas. My battery box is 15 inches on its largest dimension.

I'm looking for something sturdy, reliable, water proof, and with a reasonsble cross-section.

I can absolutely tour on what I have, and I've tested it on long rides, I'm just not certain it's bulletproof like my burley child trailer turned out to be.
