This isn't screwing back in. I noticed it was loose when I took the wheel off to clean the bike. I'm I'm holding it tight on the other end and nothing bites. It's too hard for me to see the thread. I tighten for ages and nothing bits. It's possible it ran loose for a while and I'm only just noticing it now. Could the thread be cooked?

  1. Are you sure its supposed to be screwed? It looks like an end cap on a 12 mm thru axle and most of them are just pressed/pushed on.

It’s not supposed to screw in. Can just be pushed in and then Held in place when the axle is on the wheel

most modern thru axle hub spacers/caps don’t screw into the hub. they are held into place via the thru-axle or Q/R

Although ideally it shouldn’t move this free.
The thru axle will hold it in place. Just be careful when removing the wheel to not lose it.
