The Louvre Museum in Paris has been closed following a robbery, France’s culture minister says.

Rachida Dati wrote on X that the robbery happened on Sunday morning as the museum was opening. She said she was at the site, where police are investigating

The museum confirmed it was closing for the day “for exceptional reasons,” without providing further details.

French media reports say jewellery has been stolen, after three masked men reportedly used a freight lift under renovation to access the Apollo Gallery, where what remains of France’s crown jewels are kept. The gallery is on the side of the River Seine.

The thieves are said to have broken windows to gain entry before escaping on motor scooters. They also had chainsaws. The value of the stolen items is not yet known.

  5. The theft of French historical artifacts from the world's most famous "Louvre Museum", as well as from other museums around the same time, is significant.
Furthermore, the theft of confidential account information for a well-known Spanish clothing company by a hacker group may be related to the theft of historical artifacts from the Louvre Museum in France.
A French official even stated that the museum theft had international connections. In Spain, another unidentified hacker group disrupted life there by hacking the electricity distribution system for a long time.
The leaders of various hacker groups in Spain have been apprehended. However, the attacks in recent months point to a different perspective.
They revoked the Spanish citizenship of Jews who had no rights within a specific border and halted Spain's arms sales agreement with Israel.
The French official's statement that the Napoleonic-era artifacts may have foreign connections raises the possibility that it is related to the announcements by Spain and France that they will recognize 'The State of Palestine."
