If I remember correctly, on each corner of that square there is a wartime photo of that side of the square to compare the present day to then. In many respects little has changed.
I believe this was in a scene from The movie The Longest Day. Red Buttons played the American paratrooper who had the unfortunate luck to ironically land on a church.
I can’t imagine what these soldiers went through.
