Hello everyone, I’m about to buy a new specialized Diverge sport carbon with Sram Apex 1 groupset . My previews Gravel bike was a Diverge with claris groupset . Will I see a big difference and any of you have some feedback to give me on the SRAM Apex?

i have sram apex 1 on a bike. its good except replacements on it are alot more expensive than shimano
i always figured the Apex would be on the level of my grx800. Not sure why it’s so much more expensive. I’m on the outlook for a Force etap ASX on my next bike tho.
I’m assuming the 2024 Diverge will come with 12 speed Apex if you can wait a few months.
maybe if it is the new SRAM Apex 12s mech, it is all good. it stays on HG freehub too
I’m very much a part timer but I have a 1×11 SRAM Apex 1 group set on my planetx bike. I quickly got to grips with it and not had any issues
Wow, didn’t realise Apex 1 is on carbon fibre bikes, given its positioned as a more entry level groupset (but with SRAM absurd pricing).
I too have a Diverge E5 aluminium bike that came with Claris. I upgraded to SRAM Rival 1 once it became knackered.
The difference was noticeable. Shifting was definitely faster and more tactile feeling, I quite like Double-tap as you can operate all shifts from one lever, but I think the simplicity of 1x is what I enjoyed and noticed the most, which you can of course get from GRX, Ekar or any modern mtb groupset.
I’ve got Apex 1 on my Warbird. Never had any issues. It’s never even needed any adjustments. Shifts quickly and accurately.
I run Apex 1, it’s fine. Not as low end as it appears based on its position in Sram’s lineup, I’d say it’s similar to GRX 600, maybe 400 in some aspects. Shifting is smooth and accurate, if slightly industrial feeling. Setup is easy. I hate the proprietary bolt pattern on the crank arms that forces you to use Sram’s overpriced chainrings. I swapped those as soon as I wore my first ring out. Otherwise it’s solid. I’d feel good about buying it again.
Edit: I just reread and saw you’re coming from Claris. It’s way better, you’ll be thrilled.
My understanding with grx is that 40, 600, 800 differ mostly in chain ring size and weight. I have friends with all and they shift fine.
Technology is so improved that any decent modern bike is a wonderful machine.
I have an Apex 1x.
I have a steel frame that I’ll be putting it on, taking it off my current aluminum Cx bike. It’s bomb proof and works just fine. A big fan of the double tap system.
A lot of time, you go “up” in groupsets to spend ridiculous money just to save a tiny bit of weight.
Im using a Sram Apex 1 and I use it for gravel racing and I had upgraded it to 12spd and oval chainrings. I enjoy the groupset for its simplicity and function, plus it never gave me any issues at all
Have a few thousand miles on my apex drivetrain and it’s been solid. It’s ridiculously cheap in regards to replacement parts (rear mechs, chains, cassettes)
