Hi everyone,

I have a question for the community.

I absolutely love bikepacking. However, there is one issue that keeps giving me a lot of respect, especially when riding in parts of Eastern Europe: dogs.

I’ve experienced that stray or guard dogs chase cyclists, particularly in rural areas. Even when nothing serious happens, the situation can feel pretty intense and stressful.

How do you deal with dogs while bikepacking?

Do you have any practical strategies to prevent them from chasing you?

Do you slow down or speed up?

Do you use deterrents (ultrasonic devices, water bottles, anything else)?

How do you stay calm in those situations?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences!

Thanks a lot in advance for your tips and safe rides!

  1. I haven’t had bad problems. Generally I’ll try to take them with me, see how far they can run.
