I have a SRAM Force 11 speed crankset with the 3 bolt DM. The bike came with the crankset installed and I had not taken it or the bottom bracket since i purchased it. I was swapping parts on some different bikes and removed the crankset and uninstalled the DM spider with the chainring and tried to install on a different bike, it didn't work how i wanted it to. So i reinstalled the DM spider with the chainring and reinstalled the crankset (I did not remove the bottom bracket). After installation there was a grinding that was happening (see bottom bracket pic). Because of the damage i got a new bottom bracket. I removed the DM spider and chainring and cleaned all contact areas and reinstalled the DM spider and it still sounds like there is rubbing happening between the crankset, DM spider, maybe the bolts holding on the spider? I have the 3 bolts torqued as tight as they will go and it looks like the DM spider is higher than the crankset interface. Is this normal? What am i missing?

I had an old CX bike with this crankset, if I remember correctly, there was a wave washer on the drive side. I’ll edit my post later, after I check SRAM technical documentation. My BB was a press fit though, not sure for a threaded BB.

  2. Last photo shows the problem. This is road, GXP.

It appears you have a 68mm bottom bracket shell and are running a 2.5mm spacer between bottom bracket and frame. Not clear from photos but if there is one on the other side that is part of the problem, too.

That crank is designed for 68mm shell, no spacers behind bottom bracket cups.
