What's up guys I left my bike unlocked outside the strip mall while buying work shoes (what a sob story!) My heart dropped for half a second while rounding the corner to the side of the building after I thought to myself "It's still there right?" And I knew, "I am stupid".

Anyways, I'm looking for a bike findable on Craigslist, FB Marketplace, etc. so, I'm looking more for guidance on what features i should look for than a specific model of bicycle. I was rocking a Got Milk? promotional 10 speed from Huffy, far too rusty to have any resale value, but it was light and fast and I loved it.

I want something light and fast, able to cross from pavement to sidewalk/gravel with relative ease, and the lowest maintenance necessary, suspension is optional. I would love the ability to mount a rear rack. If someone could even tell me what style of bicycle frame i am thinking of if it's not "90s 10 speed" like I had, that'd be immensely helpful. Hoping to score something for $100-$200 USD(February 2026 money)

Hard to say what you’re likely to find second hand, but there’s loads of hybrids and rigid mountain bikes which can be solid for this sort of money. I’m not sure I’d trust any suspension on cheap bikes like this, so you’re better off sticking with rigid forks. Make sure you know what frame size you’re looking for, probably the most important thing to get right.

Trek FX, Specialized Sirrus, Giant Escape, Cannondale Quick, dozens of brands make something similar. If you find some listings you’re considering you can post them to r/whichbike for further advice.

Always sucks to have a bike nicked, but a decent U lock through the rear triangle can make it a bit less of an appealing target.
