I’d say a solid yes, because my bike mechanic is me.

The guy at my LBS is an angel. Seriously.

No, I’ve had nothing but friendly interactions with bike mechanics at multiple stores.

The one I pay? No. The one who drinks my beer in my garage is suspect though.

I think the mechanics at my LBS are different, but certainly not jerks. One will listen and is friendly, the other listens to half the story and then say they know what the problem is without listening the the other half. Both are rock solid mechanics and always fix my bike issues. I assume the second one has, in fact, seen it all and I am wasting they’re time with my full story. I don’t mind either personalities. People tick in different ways.

Not to me, but yes, because they deal with worse.

I don’t care, when I need their help I pay them for work, not be my best friend.
Why are people so sensitive?

Yes, and I’ve been let down too many times so often I just ordered the tools and learn how to do it myself.

Not assholes just awkward bike nerds with no customer service skills. Like, they’ll just blurt out a correction over the top of you talking if you happen to say a part name wrong, or just lead with “no that’s not how it works” and keep talking. It’s not a biggie, I’m a computer nerd so dealing with socially inept nerds is my jam. I almost enjoy the stilted awkward pause as I slowly say “so… are you telling me that you think I should replace the derailleur because it’s worn, or are you just saying it’s a low quality derailleur that you disapprove of?
