I am pretty dead set on finding a front mounted child seat for my 13 month old. She’s 17 lbs. I just got this bike without realizing that it may be difficult to find a compatible seat. I know nothing technical about bikes – I just LOVE biking! So I feel a little silly.

What are my options? It’s a Trek Verve 3 Gen 5.

  1. So take this advice as somewhat dated, because my child is 16 *years* old and not 16 months, but back when she was 16 months, I had an iBert Safe-T-Seat on a Trek 4500.

Something like this (same colour seat, same bike as mine).

The seat actually worked pretty well, but it will really depend on how tall you are, and I can see how shorter and/or narrower riders might have trouble with knee clearance. You might need to move your seat back a little.

She loved it, I loved it. It was also really easy to take on and off (there’s a little post it slides off and on of that attaches to the stem) and your kid gets to ring the bell. I had it until some dirtbag stole the bike with the seat attached to it, which absolutely broke my daughter’s heart at the time.

Once they outgrow it, you can move to either a towable bike/trailer (I had one of these until it, too, got stolen), a towing arm for their own bike, and/or an open bike seat like the [Kids Ride Shotgun](https://kidsrideshotgun.com/) which I’ve heard good things about.

tl;dr, try one out. Some of my best memories were tooling around with my daughter in-front. It’s really nice because you can talk and interact in a way you cannot with a rear seat or trailer.
