Help me choose — I’ve found two specific models that I like.

Fox Rampage MIPS:

It’s already kind of “time-tested” for me — I’ve been riding with the Fox Dropframe Pro for a year or more and the fit is perfect, so I’m very confident this one will suit me as well.
Another advantage is that it has all the possible certifications.

Alpina Pikes MIPS:

More or less the same — MIPS, a double-D (DD) buckle, and both seem to have very thick padding. The difference is that it’s €50 cheaper, which is significant.

There’s less information available and fewer certifications, but that’s not critically important.

  1. I would spend the money for fox just because of the extra venting. I live in a hot climate and those extra vents work well on hotter days.

  2. Afraid-Produce-5107 on

I would classify Fox and Alpina as both trustworthy manufacturers, but regarding the actual protective performance, I could only rely on Google test results. Ventilation is certainly an issue; purely from the pictures, the Fox seems to be ahead, but ultimately it comes down to fit. If the Alpina fits similarly well to the Fox and you can do without the superior ventilation, then in my opinion, there’s nothing inherently wrong with the Alpina. But the only way to know for sure is to try it on – at least 20 minutes with this type of helmet. Only then will you notice if it starts to pinch or press uncomfortably anywhere. (Pressures on the skin are normal and not a sign of a poor fit…)

  3. NotGoodButFast on

First off – it needs to fit, then I usually “splurge” for a name brand, it may be a false assumption but I assume that they put a bit more effort into their gear. I would not by a brand which I don’t recognize. With all this said, never by a helmet without checking Virginia tech’s rating.

  4. I would recomend the alpine becouse its cheaper and looks cleaner but for me leatt still makes the best helms

  5. I really don’t like Fox’s Fidlock implementation on the Proframe, it loosens off too easily. Double D for the win

  6. Those are really closed and in the summer your head will boil. I got IXS Trigger FF Mips for 130eur from bike-components.de it’s the lightest FF with around 600gr and has all the vents. Highly recommend
