While my new Brompton C is still awaiting its maiden trip (due to harsh winter conditions) I am looking into reasonably waterproof bag options for bikepacking or even camping, starting with the rear rack:

So there's Brompton's 10 l trapezoid, waterproof Borough Roll Top Bag with its meh faded blue colour and somewhat steep price.

Then there is Ortlieb's up to 16 l, more affordable "Dry Pack" with its no-nonsense design and colours, useful bungee cords, tie-down straps, which may or may not be stable or obstruct pedalling.

Googling was rather unseccussful. I want to visit a few stores tomorrow, so questions:

  • Any experiences with the Ortlieb bag?
  • Am I missing important details?
  • What other options (available in Europe) should I consider?

Thank you so much.

  1. I liked the idea of the Brompton Roll Top bag but couldn’t get over the ridiculously steep price. I actually just went with the [Blackburn Cargo Bag](https://a.co/d/00RRbAtN). It has a slightly smaller liter capacity but it easily fit on my rear rack (M6R aka C-line in today’s Brompton nomenclature). I’m riding in Spain next month and needed a way to keep my rain gear and stuff. I would like a little more space and there are plenty of other dry sack options like Sea to Summit’s many dry sacks. I like the attachment points too, makes it easier but I think Brompton’s bag has a more elegant solution on attacking to a rear rack with the Velcro tabs.

When I start doing more touring where I’m carrying my own gear, I plan to outfit myself with Vincita’s rear and front rack. For now, I have been fine with the older Brompton backpack and this dry sack.
