So this aluminium plate that holds the rear derailleur (the gear shifter on the back wheel) has broken AGAIN. I’ve already replaced it twice and each time it costs around ₹600, so I’ve spent ₹1200 on the same part and it just keeps breaking.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a stronger version of this part or a better place to buy a good quality one at a reasonable price? Any tips on preventing this from happening again would really help

How is it breaking? Is it getting smacked on something or is it snapping just under pedaling power?
The bike isn’t doing anything!
Is it getting caught in the spokes when you are in or shift to the big rear sprocket? That is often what causes this. Check your inside limit screw.
It is supposed to break. If it didn’t break you’d break your frame or your rear derailleur.
Step 1. For the love of all that is decent, clean your damn chain and all the gears!
you are in the right track when you asked *am i doing something wrong?*
what i think is happening here is that you are pedaling hard, at a slow speed when the derailleur is engaging in a shift. i think your derailleur hanger (the part that breaks) is getting banged up somewhere, maybe when being locked up, or the bike has fallen on the drive side. damage to the hanger gets things out of alignment. when both things happen? these parts can break. you’ll need to pay attention to the alignment and other details of your bike, how and when you shift, and apply pressure on the pedals. good luck. 🍀
