Got this bike used and started using it to commute to work/go on bike rides. I’m running a 42/16 gear ratio, which seems to be pretty good for San Francisco riding. I can go on some uphills and the quick acceleration seems suitable for city riding. I’m still unsure how people bomb some of the hills out here a La mash sf. I can manage on more gradual declines but the steep ones seem very impossible to effectively bike without dying.
I enjoy riding the bike very much and was thinking about gradually upgrading components. Eventually, I can use those upgraded components on a new bike if I run the life out of this Langster. I wanted to ask for any opinions or advice on what components should I should look to upgrade first. My guess is a wheelset? If so, any ideas? I am not looking to do tricks, just hard city commuting and riding (sf).

You are riding brakeless without foot retention and you wonder why it is you have trouble going down hills in SF? God you can’t make this shit up.
Front brake and foot retention is the bare minimum in my opinion.
so 100% get some retention, i’ve moved to clipless and love it
idk how people go without a front brake in the bay, i rarely use it out here in castro valley but i’m on it a lot in the city. i’ll just walk it up hills tho, no big deal
hope to see you out there sometime! ☺️
Sorry I should have mentioned I do have straps on the pedals. I took this picture when I first got the bike, straps were the first thing I put on them.
