Picked up a steamroller on my local marketplace on a whim, put some of my parts on it and I’m absolutely loving riding a fixed gear. What are some tips for new fixed gear rider? My normal bike is a Surly Grappler(mountain bike geometry with drop bars and big tire clearance)

Get a rear brake regardless of conversion even if without straps.
Don’t stop pedaling
Read all of 63xc.com and you should be good
get straps and take the brakes off. ride in 5 o clock traffic to train.
You maked a fantastic choice with a steamroller.
Either get some straps or clips for foot retention. I’m not a fan of brakes but even if you plan on using them you should know how to skid. Steamrollers are great frames. You can use them for a ton of different build types. Looks like you’re off to a good start. Practice track stands and backwards circles and just get comfortable riding around before trying to go crazy.
practice trackstands would be my tip. invaluable when you have to stop (s/o university cops forcing me to obey laws 🙃), and steezy as hell. gotten more than a few compliments at stoplights just being able to trackstand (plus its a fundamental skill if you wanna learn more tricks down the line)
Brakes are great.
Don’t coast.
Practice getting up curbs cleanly.
Keep the rubber side down
