My bottom bracket on my 1980 Koga-Miyata roadrunner was making a weird mettalic rattling sound. Although it was still turning smoothly without play.
I took the Shimano Selecta bottom bracket apart expecting to find a shattered bearing or something, but everything looks fine. The only thing I can see is this part that has some wear marks. I know it is supposed to be perfectly smooth, but I can barely feel it with a fingernail. Is this the cause of the weird rattle?
I cleaned it and put it back together with a good amount of grease, I don't hear it anymore.
