Starting from the end of the metro line again we followed cycle paths and back roads, crossing the Colo River at Lower Portland before a hot and dusty ride up Wheelbarrow Ridge Rd to Putty Rd and a late lunch at the food van up there. It was about 38c/100f on the climb and we must have looked like we’re were suffering as a local invited us in for iced water which saved our bacon. After this was a smooth gravel downhill run to Upper Colo Reserve where we set up tents before going to sit in the river to cool off.
Day 2 was a steep climb from the Colo, another smooth gravel descent to Wheeney Creek, one more gravel climb then back on to tarmac for the run down to Windsor and the cycle path back to Rouse Hill metro station.
