Maybe a bike rack in the front is not so bad after all…

For a while I was thinking of getting a bike rack. I started a new job at the beginning of the year and was now commuting almost every. Why not everyday? Well I’m a gal that get sweaty and in that case, a backpack is not comfortable + getting ready at work in a tiny bathroom is manageable but not fun.

So two weeks ago, I finally got a bike rack. Not the typical one in the back but one in the front. I kept getting the question of why in the front and to be honest I just think it looks cool (and I can see my bag if there’s ever anything)

I was even « arguing » with my husband while it was getting installed. He kept asking why « there »and sometimes the reason is just because! Doesn’t make sense to you but it does to me.

This week I have a new reason why… it can save your life… (a bit dramatic yes yes) on my way home after work, a guy simply opened his car door before checking and I had the chance to meet that door face to face. When the accident happened, I was in shock and the right side of my jaw was in pain and I couldn’t move it properly.

I didn’t want to say I was okay or not because I didn’t know how I would feel once the adrenaline wears off. I just knew I needed to get to the hospital to get it check. After a full night in the ER. I was bruised, scratched, soar, there was a bit of blo*d but no fracture or loose tooth.

Yesterday, after 8 hours in the hospital. I came home, slept for a good 3 hours, showered and walked to get my bike (because I was so close to home too).

By chance my bike was still there.
It wasn’t until I started to walk with it that i realized how lucky I got. The bike rack took most of the hit. Acted like a buffer between the door and my face. It was bent and twisted a bit but that’s it.

So yeah, maybe a messenger rack is more than looking cool.

I’m going to the bike shop today (a bit embarrassed for some reason). I get that fix and do a proper tune up as well, new tape and all.
