About seven months ago I broke my leg in a small accident. I couldn’t ride for months, and the recovery has been slow and frustrating. Honestly, it was harder on me mentally than I expected.

Before the injury, cycling was a big part of my routine. I rode regularly, cared about cadence, and I enjoyed longer routes. When my doctor finally cleared me to start light activity, I knew I wasn’t ready to jump straight back onto my regular bike. Standing starts, hard efforts, and rough pavement just felt like too much risk for where my leg was at.

I decided to try an ebike for a while. I got a Heybike Ranger 3.0 a month ago, a fat tire one. Not as a complete replacement for cycling, but as a bridge back to it. The pedal assist lets me keep a smooth, steady cadence without stressing my leg, and the fat tires feel far more planted on rough roads, which makes the ride much more forgiving. I don’t feel like I’m risking another injury, even on bumpier surfaces. It’s gentler than what I was used to, but I can still enjoy the views and the ride itself while rebuilding confidence instead of fixating on power or balance.

It’s to heal properly, rebuild strength, and eventually transition back to my regular bike. For now, this setup helps me stay connected to a sport I love rather than sitting on the sidelines.
