Seriously, Iowa? wtf is this about? If ever there was a place with room for cycling, it’s Iowa. Bike safety? BS. If states wanted actual bike safety, they’d go after all of the shitty drivers. I am glad to this bill was paused, but that only means it’ll come back.
If someone from Iowa is on this thread, please shed some light on the motive behind this bill.

It was pulled from consideration the following day. It is no longer an active bill.
Surveillance state bill. Much harder for the popo to track you with their license plate readers if you ride your bike everywhere.
Bold move from the state that hosts RAGBRAI…
I want them to outlaw Dance Class. It’s a huge waste of time and money, and a general nuisance for Fathers everywhere who get roped into dropping off, or picking up the kids. Let the little girls play with their corn dolls.
If you read the article it’s clear it was drafted by a fixie: “HSB 637 also addresses anti-locking and anti-skid braking mechanisms, requiring that all devices be able to brake in a way that allows skidding. This conflicts with modern bicycle and e-bike hydraulic braking systems, which are designed to provide controlled stopping power that reduces the risk of wheel lock-ups and skidding for rider safety.”
Iowa is a hellhole. They are testing the water to see how much they can ban. Also kind of hilarious that they wanted to ban bikes on roads above 25 (for safety) but are not considering it for large farm equipment that destroys the roads and goes under 25mph. (And they should not ban those either)
how about a pickup truck ban
