Welcome back to another Big Stoozer MTB Adventure 🚵‍♂️
This time I’m heading out into The Kingdom of Fife to explore the Cullaloe Hills — an absolute gem packed with flowing MTB singletrack and cracking cross-country riding.
The trails here are perfect for year-round MTB, especially in winter, and this ride takes us all the way up to the fascinating Cullaloe Hills Temple, a beautifully built stone monument sitting high above the surrounding countryside with some seriously impressive views.
🏛️ A Bit of History
At the top of Cullaloe Hill lies the Cullaloe Temple, built in the early 19th century and showcasing the stunning colour and quality of Cullaloe stone — a material once exported across Scotland, England, Europe, and even the Caribbean.
The temple formed part of an ornamental landscape created by James Stuart of Dunearn (1775–1849), who transformed the estate into a ferme ornée — complete with rides, gravel paths, plantations, and terraces said to offer one of the finest prospects in Great Britain. Today, the temple and nearby rustic tower remain as atmospheric reminders of that era.

🚵‍♂️ MTB Trail Details:
This ride features some of my favourite cross-country trails in Fife, including:
The “Down” Trail.
Roy’s Trail.
The Monument (Temple) Trail.
Fast, flowing, and technical in places — proper Scottish singletrack at its best.
NB. I am now reliably informed that, unfortunately, The nearby Quarry has now swalloped up The “Down’ Trail.

🎥 Filming Setup
GoPro Hero 8 for the on-bike MTB action
DJI Mavic Air 2 for cinematic drone footage

  1. A nice wee local one for ye Stoozer 🙂 never even knew those tracks were there ! you should try a night time jaunt around it, midnight MTB by the orange glow of the moss 🙂

  2. I’ve seen the Cullaloe Hills/Trails on Trailforks before thought about this not far from Aberdour, good to see what it actually looks like and handy to find a year round rideable trail. Bugger when action camera gets clogged with mud or gets dropped, hopefully easy clean and back working again. Another one I’d like to check is Kemback woods not far from Cupar. Cheers for sharing Stoozer all the best Gary 😁🤙
