Hello all,

I am trying to take my bike apart so I can paint it, not a fan of the tan but can’t complain for £60 off facebook.

Having a bike of issue getting the forks off. I have got this far but the video I watched they just slip out but these aren’t and there doesn’t appear to be any more things I can un tighten.

Is it just a case of giving it a good hit with a rubber mallet or can my forks just not be removed?

theres a tiny little spacer on top, try to take that out. then if probably try to hit the forks with a rubber mallet (or a metal kne and a piece of wood in-between) with the frame sideways flat onto a blanket to not damage anything.

  2. As other answers, rubber mallet or a black of wood and hammer. It just needs tapping done to release to pressure the washer that holds it all together

  3. There’s a compression spacer, that would be the first spacer you see coming down from the top of the steer tube. If you hit the top of the forks steer tube with a mallet or a piece of wood and a hammer, it should all come apart.

You’ll want to make sure you reassemble it in the correct order otherwise your headset will probably be a little shifty

  4. Take that black split compression spacer out from the top, should slide out pretty easily after that.

Get a pick in the split of that top washer and pry one side up, then the other side. It helps to strike the bottom of the steerer tube upward as you do this to release the lock it has on the headset. Then the forks should just drop out. Everyone saying bash it from the top is stupid. It’s literally designed to wedge harder that way.

  6. Cheers for the help all, not managed to do it, going to take it to my local on the weekend 🙂

Put a front wheel in the fork and bang it against a wall. Not hard, just like you rode 8nto the wall. The angle will pop it loose.
