So I bought my first vintage bicycle and I really don’t know much about it other than it’s a MAIRAG bicycle made in Switzerland. The components are black Shimano Dura-Ace and Reynolds 531 tubing which really caught my eye. So any info and/or help is appreciated. PS: I love this community here and it played a big part in me getting this bicycle. 🙂

Looks to me like you already know what you’re doing. A beautiful frame with high end tubing and high end illusive components. Looks well tuned even.

I would level the saddle, check the bearing adjustments, and do a bolt check. You could peak inside the hubs to see if they need grease or not. This bike looks well taken care of.

Can’t tell but if those brake pads are old and super hard you may want to replace; if it brakes well, then keep em.

  2. Yeah you definitely scored. I’ve never heard of the frame but with 531 tubing it was very likely a high end frame for the time, which I’m guessing is the late 70s. And the Dura-Ace parts were race quality and fairly rare now. The brake blocks don’t look original.

Black. Dura-Ace. Is. The. Best! Nice old style DA brake calipers have the triangle brace – super strong. Not a fan of the drilled out chain rings, but the package is awesome. Great find.
