Lagrasse, a fortified “Most Beautiful Village” in the Cathar castles area

Lagrasse is a medieval fortified village in the ancient Cathar area, between Carcassonne and Narbonne.
Lagrasse is one of the Most Beautiful Villages (Plus Beaux Villages) of France.
Lagrasse old village has a 14th-century covered market and cobblestone streets, a 12th-century stone bridge, many medieval houses, some ancient fortifications and the 8th-century Benedictine Lagrasse Abbey.
There are shops, terrace cafés and restaurants on the wide and shady Bvd de la Promenade, and more boutiques in the heart of the old village at the Place de la Halle.

In the center of the old village is the 14th-century Eglise St-Michel, with a tall, square bell tower and an internal spiral stairway.
