So I know this isn't the typical post for this sub, but since we all are pretty chill with whatever so long as it rides, I figured y'all might be interested. I found this at a thrift store in the fall and picked it for like $200, couldn't believe it showed up at a thrift store of all places. anyway, I got it road worthy and it blew my mind with how excellent it is. I've always thought recumbents were cool, but was never sold on the trikes. this is definitely elite status cycling lol. it feels fast, handles great, and you obviously can't beat the ergonomics. I think it's now tied for the coolest bike in my stable.
have a great day

I found one locally across town for $100, it didn’t fit in my car, and I debated just riding it home, but it wasn’t quite road worthy. At the time I’d have no place to store it but they are a ton of fun ( as long as you’re not going uphill )
That’s a steal. Could’ve been sold for 2-3X that amount.
Trikes are certainly niche…a hassle to transport, visibility concerns, generally slower on climbs, and gotta be super watchful for potholes.
But for folks with balance issues…they’re a viable option.
Why does everyone say recumbents are so fast? Is there an aerodynamic advantage or does it feel faster because the rider is closer to the ground? Maybe both?
Please, PLEASE get into xbiking recumbent trikes, people. There is such a glut of them in the co-op space, since it’s mostly retirees buying and they just buy new, then die and the family gets rid of these 5k+ things for nothing.
This is a pretty nice recumbent. The shop I work at is a dealer for HP Velotechnik, you got a great deal!
Funnily enough I’ve been having an itch to start a velomobile project. Thankfully I haven’t yet found such a great deal otherwise I’d be forced to start the project haha
That’s an amazing find. Those german HP Velotechnik trikes cost a pretty penny.
Put a middrive motor ebike conversation kit like the [CYC Photon 2](https://www.cycmotor.com/product-page/photon-gen-2) or the [Tongsheng TZSD8](https://varstrom.com/products/tse-tongsheng-tsdz8-750w) on for heaps of fun.
I one million percent would’ve bought one of these to just randomly pull up to the crew on it. Lmao these honestly look so fun
Those gripshifts aren’t that good aren’t they. Microshifts bar end shifter work really well.
My brother in law had a Catrike and it was surprisingly a lot of fun.
Is it time to start the /r/xtriking sub? That thing looks so cool! I would definitely be tempted to put a mid-drive motor, a big 48V battery, and a cargo rack on it to use as my primary method of travel during the nicer months.
Storage space for that footprint is the reason they go cheap.
Fantastic! Enjoy!
HP Velotenik is a top quality maker.
