I got my hands on a unique Specialized rigid MTB with the Mountain Dew colors and logo.
But I can't figure out if it's an official promotional release or a custom paint job. ðŸ˜
I looked everywhere: nothing. I hit up both Specialized and PepsiCo and neither could confirm. So I now turn to you Reddit!
Does anyone know if this bike is legit?
Based on shape, decals (and their position), components, and serial number, my best guess is that the frame is a Hardrock Classic (1998).
I just want to make sense of this oddity and have a story to tell. Maybe there's a catalogue or an ad that can prove its an official bike? 🤔
If it's of any help, I bought it from a reseller in Québec, Canada.
What do you guys think?
The work of a Mountain Dew lover or a promotional bike made for some contest?
Let me know!

Ned Overend was sponsored by both Specialized and Mountain Dew back in the day. I even remember him plastered all over Mountain Dew vending machines. I’d say it’s probably legit and not just a soda enthusiast.
In the late 90s, Specialized sponsored a mtb xc team with Mountain Dew with Steve Tilford, Ned Overend, Shaun Palmer and some other big names. They had a lot of promo items and merch. I’ve got a few jerseys, bottles and a coffee mug. I haven’t seen this specific bike but makes sense to be legit. There were loads of other drink branded bikes from those years. I have a Budlight and SoBe Cannondale and have seen Pepsi, Diet coke and Gatorade promo bikes too.
