  1. Hi there, I got myself a 1991 Panasonic MC 6500 with a 3×7 drivetrain. I was wondering if I could get a 8/9/10 freehub body and replace the existing 7 speed freehub body without the need for a new wheel or redishing the existing wheel after changing the freehub body. Thanks for your help!

  2. Yes.you will have to redish your wheel though. Not as scary or difficult as it sounds. I may be an idiot and im sure someone will tell me so. But i have had hubs that need new/ different spacers after, and ive had hubs that take the new fh body and fit right back up

  3. Probably not.

Freehub body is specific to the hub. A hub that old probably doesn’t have a wider freehub body machined for it.

  4. I’ve done this before. As others have said you will have to redish the wheel and potentially cold set the frame a wee bit. When I did it I had a newer Shimano hub I took the freehub and axle from and installed them in place of the original. Unless the rims are something really special it may make more sense to just get a different wheel.

It’s either new wheel or re-dish after free-hub swap. The space has to come from somewhere. There is no freehub that takes the same amount of room that accepts a wider cassette.
