Hey everyone, I decided to do a winter project/ new dad parts bin build while I’m off of work and raising this new born! (I’ve been working in the dining room.) This is a 1987 Maruishi RX-5 that I’ve had for several years. I tore it down to the frameset and had it in storage. I’ve been amassing parts for a while and decided to pull this out and start the build.
The plan is to have a laid back, upright drop bar cruiser. I’m doing a 1×9 drivetrain with a Shimano Deore derailleur, 38T crank bolted to the original Shimano crank arms, 11-32 cassette, and a Sun Race bar-end shifter. I added some Amazon aero brake levers and a longer stem. I’ve also added new brake pads and a sealed bottom bracket. The pedals are old Wellgos, wheelset is from a takeoff from an older Specialized Allez, and the tires are 700x28c Thickslicks.
I’m trying to figure out the best way to setup the bars to be the most comfortable. I’ve got a bad back and don’t want to be super leaned over to reach the hoods. These are the original handlebars. Any suggestions are welcome!
Thank you!

Tall bike! I’d fit on this super comfortable like.
Damn bro how tall are you? I could sleep in a hammock in that main triangle.
Those 28″ wheels looking tiny
To clarify: Yes, this a huge frame. I am 6’4” with a long inseam. I can stand over the top tube with my feet flat on the floor.

I have a similar sized Univega. A hair too tall to stand over but the fit is perfect to me. Im only.6’1″. I love it. 3×9 with bar ends
Play college ball? 🏀 🤣
I have dreams of bicycles built for people that are over 7 feet tall.
They are nightmares, and this picture frightens me.
In the dreams, giants ride up behind me and rip my head off to use it as a ball in a game of bicycle polo as White Zombie music blares on loudspeakers.
They take my bicycle and give it to one of their kids.
Hell yeah!! Cool set up
