Axle cone on generic bike wheel is kaput, so want to replace. Brand new they are like $25, but I had a thought to use an only junked wheel for parts. Every measurement BUT the height/length lines up. 1mm off…im thinking that it's so close that it should be fine?

Some pitting on this salvaged cone but I should be able to sand it down a wee bit.

Bad cone is on the bottom.

  1. Probably ok but can still cause dishing problems. I’d try to find a washer to make up for the missing mm(s).

That cup is spalled all to hell. Are you sure it’s not just better to replace it. Sanding it will not help.
