  1. So, this is why engineers should keep edged weapons on their desk in case Designers get funny ideas. Or as we say in dutch: “goffedomme gewoon rechtuit kut”

  2. Boohoo, meanwhile my ass in America is lucky if we have a little white line on the side of a main street delineating a bike “lane” here that people usually park on. Also unless you’re really hauling ass that looks perfectly manageable.

I don’t know if it looks fun, or I’d hate it.

There is a bike lane where I live that gives off similar vibes and it’s dangerous.

  4. probably to control peoples’ speed on the straightaway. I’ve seen residential streets (for cars) designed like this.

  5. This looks like fun 🙂

If this is what you got to complain about, your life is pretty good man.

  6. I love it – turns aren’t so sharp that one couldn’t take them at a decent speed, and it adds some charm. Also, coming from the US, I’m pretty jealous. Not that these are non-existent, but there’s a reason I’m almost exclusively mountain biking.

Someone responded in another sub that actually designed it. It’s specifically to reduce speed for fatbikes and electric bikes. They had to have some trees in the way that exaggerated this effect even more. So there you go.

  8. High traffic forces everyone to go at a safe pace

Low traffic you can just barrel on through

  9. Is this a multi-use path? If so, it makes sense.

    * If there are pedestrians/other cyclists on the path, the curves help control bicycle speeds, making it safer for everyone.
    * If there are no other people on the path, the curves are pretty small, so just ignore the markings and cut a straight line

Seriously, I’d be well happy with a cycle lane like that Leicester. Be grateful for what you have there.

  11. I would be entirely unable pedal this without ducking into the drops and making motorcycle noises with my mouth.

  12. It looks like a lot of fun. By naturally controlling speed it is more inclusive to all levels of bicyclists. I wish we had half of Dutch level bike infrastructure where I live (USA PNW).
