coming from the 3x bmx champ you just got to imagine the image of an elephant and hop into it and then you will have high bunny hops
That’s not a real bunny hop. There are thousands of tutorials on youtube. Go watch some and compare your riding to the video as your practice.
For how you’re hopping that is actually pretty high, the ‘problem’ with your hop is you’re lifting the front and back wheels at the same time, you need to be lifting your front wheel first get to a ‘peak’ and then pull your back wheel up and level out (to actually get your back wheel up it’s more of a push forward whilst tucking – YouTube is your friend here!) – totally all about timing then you’ll be popping some bars/3’s too 👍 good luck
Try it slower. Your right, here your doing something like a bump hop and not a bunny hop. Think of pulling up the front first then ripping the back end up to match the front. Right now you are doing them at the same time. Think front then back. Try it slow to get the motion down. Also set something on the ground to hop over. That will get you in the habit of pulling the front up first to get over the obstacle.
Watch some videos of better skill riders too. Pay attention to the steps they take to move the bike up and down. You don’t have to copy the height but the movement is what is important.
Go watch some YT tutorials. Stop thinking of lifting the bike and start thinking about moving your body up. You weigh more than the bike. If you jump high the bike has to come with you, if you focus on lifting the bike you just pull your body down.
