I recently got Silca's titanium hanger for shimano direct mount and I am wondering if it is safe to use with my frame – as you can see in the picture, fender/rack eyelets are in the path of the hanger in case it pivots up during strike/jam, making it impossible for the hanger to make full motion. The similar occurs with classic UDH with shimano b link – b link strikes the eyelets (tho the movement is still longer than on Silca's),

Additionally, as per Silca hanger screw, it should be torqued up to 25 nm, but it seems that such tight fit would stop the pivoting action of the hanger, is this right? This is my first frame with UDH thus I am not 100% how this system works.

  1. That hanger should not move. The pivoting motion in the derailleur occurs where the hanger meets the derailleur

According to the Silca website the hanger features a “Frame saving fracture notch design allows the hanger to become sacrificial under the hardest of impacts”

So rather than rotation, it should hopefully break.

Make sure you always carry a spare one around with you on longer rides since it will break before bending. Unlike the more ductile typical hangers that can be bent back in a case of emergency.
They look great though with the gyroidal infill
