I’ll say this: I have maybe 5-7mm of clearance on my NDS with a SRAM Force E1 crankset. Thought my crankarm had never once touched the stay, my heel has nipped it a few times. But I think that has more to do with the 6° float than the clearance.

Depends on how flexy your crankset and your frame are.
Being as that’s a steel frame, *one* could dimple the chainstay for additional clearance. That’s very common from the factory, and not an uncommon consumer modification.
